Culture, Creativity & Community!

By Hero's Journey Academy

Year 6 Session 1 Week 2

What a vibrant week it’s been at school! From artistic accomplishments to delicious dishes and community spirit, our learners have truly outdone themselves.

In Art, we proudly finished our tribal tapestry—a beautiful collaboration showcasing traditional patterns and bold colors inspired by Polynesian cultures. Each student added their unique touch, weaving a story of unity and creativity. Afterwards, they drew a hibiscus and colored it with colored pencils. Everyone worked so hard on their flowers and they turned out awesome!

Our team building activities brought laughter, trust, and lots of energy! The blindfolded obstacle course tested communication and courage, as students relied on teammates to guide them through twists and turns. During PE, the heroes also completed a fitness test where they helped each other count and track how many push ups, sit ups, and jumping jacks they did. They cheered each other on and are looking forward to seeing their progress by the end of the session. And who could forget our epic lip dub video? With music blasting and smiles everywhere, it is coming together beautifully, and we can’t wait to play it at the exhibition!

In writer’s workshop, the ES heroes have been crafting powerful persuasive speeches to campaign for a council member spot. Their ideas, passion, and leadership skills are shining through—we can’t wait to see these young leaders in action!

On Friday, the aroma of the South Pacific filled our school as we cooked up Samoan BBQ chicken with pineapples and coconut rice. The heroes learned about traditional flavors while practicing their cooking skills. Safe to say, plates were clean, and hearts were full!

To end the week, we relaxed with a Fun Friday movie featuring Moana 2—a beautiful continuation of Moana’s journey that tied together many of the cultural themes we explored throughout the week.

From cooking to campaigning, this week has been a celebration of teamwork, culture, and creativity. We’re so proud of everyone’s efforts and can’t wait to see what next week brings!
