From our family to yours

We are the Molley family. Like many of you, we wanted to provide the best possible learning environment for our children that would spark their natural curiosity, inspire them to be lifelong learners, challenge them to grow in character, and equip them to be leaders that will change the world.

After exploring a range of educational settings, including public school, private school, and homeschool, we were unable to find anything that fit our vision of what education could be.

When we eventually came across the Acton model, we knew that it was EVERYTHING we were dreaming of... and MORE!

We knew we had to be part of this unique and special community and were thrilled at the opportunity to bring this special private school to other families in Ascension seeking a similar experience for their children.

Together, with parents, we work to make our school the perfect blend of individuality, curiosity, and community.

Our dream was to create an environment where meaningful skills are taught through real-world scenarios.

Where good character gets rewarded, and where developing a problem-solving mindset is the goal instead of an afterthought.

Where children are taught how to think, not what to think.

Where children wake up on Saturdays disappointed that there is no school.

The school you wish you had gone to.

Hero’s Journey Academy is part of a global network of Acton Academies — independent schools across the country and around the world that share a commitment to learner-driven education and high expectations for children.

We’re thankful for the families who make this community what it is.

Rooted in Partnership

Supporting Teachers. Serving Children.

Running a different educational model doesn’t mean we’re opposed to teachers or schools. We deeply respect the educators who show up every day for children — often within systems that make their work harder than it should be.

Our work has always been about supporting people and serving children wherever they are, which is why we actively partner with schools across Ascension Parish and work alongside educators throughout the community for over 25 years.

How This Shaped the School

Hero’s Journey Academy reflects what we’ve seen help children grow over time — responsibility instead of compliance, high expectations paired with trust, and real relationships instead of one-size-fits-all systems.

The learner-driven model didn’t come from theory alone. It came from years of watching children rise when they’re trusted to take ownership and supported when they struggle.

Our Campus

Our campus is designed to support focused work, collaboration, and independence — with spaces that feel calm, functional, and purposeful rather than institutional. Hero's Journey Academy is conveniently located right off the I-10 Tanger Mall exit at 316 E. Hwy 30, Gonzales LA 70737.

Our Team

Our guides are thoughtful adults who believe children are capable of more than we often assume. They don't lecture or manage every step — they ask questions, set guardrails, and support learners as they take ownership of their work and their community.
