A Quest of Strategy and Chance

Session 5 Week 2 Year 6

We had a fabulous second week of Session 5 and are deep diving into our quests and learning!

In Civilization, we journeyed back in time as we explored the Silk Road and its importance in connecting cultures across Asia and Europe. Learners read about influential historical figures such as Kublai Khan and Marco Polo, and discovered the history and significance of the Forbidden City. These topics sparked a thoughtful and engaging discussion, with learners making connections between trade, culture, and leadership throughout history.

During Quest, our Elementary Studio learners dove into the world of games. They began testing out a variety of games based on strategy and luck, carefully observing which elements made games fun, challenging, or fair. These experiences helped them think critically about what features they might want to include in the games they will design themselves. Learners also continued developing their online games using Scratch, problem-solving and refining their ideas as young game designers.

In Writer’s Workshop, our heroes were hard at work on instructional writing. Some learners continued drafting their sets of instructions, while others tested their studiomates’ work and offered helpful feedback. This collaboration helped everyone strengthen their clarity, sequencing, and communication skills.

Fun Friday was a highlight of the week! Mrs. Molley led the learners in cooking up a sweet pancake-like snack topped with jam and honey—delicious fun for all. In the afternoon, we stayed with our Game Design theme and enjoyed watching Wreck-It Ralph, sparking conversations about games, characters, and creativity.

We also want to wish a very happy birthday to Annabeth! A joyful end to a fantastic week of school.
