An Exciting Start to the Business of Session 2

Year 6 Session 2 Week 1

Last week was packed with creativity and inspiration as learners dove into both the art of storytelling and the world of entrepreneurship.

‍

We kicked off the week with a special guest speaker, Matthew Lafont, a professional in the video editing and advertising industry. Matthew shared his personal journey into the creative field, offering insight into what it takes to bring stories to life through film. He didn’t come empty-handed—he brought along professional lighting equipment and gave learners a hands-on demonstration of how lighting can change the mood and message of a scene. From bright and energetic to moody and dramatic, learners experimented with contrast and angles to see how small changes can make a big impact.

‍

‍

We began Session 2 this week which brought the start of our Entrepreneurship Quest! Each hero will be challenged to create their own small business, which they’ll present and run at our Business Fair on November 8th. The excitement is already building as learners begin brainstorming, planning, and dreaming big.

‍

Our ES (Elementary Studio) learners got a jump start on this adventure by playing interactive games related to finance and marketing. These games helped them understand important concepts like pricing, advertising, and profit/loss —all while having fun! They also completed their “business idea tickets,” which outline the first steps of their business plans.

‍

In Writer’s Workshop, learners have begun exploring the beauty and simplicity of poetry. They learned about the structure and rhythm of haikus, and even wrote their very first ones! It’s been a joy to see them express themselves creatively through words, capturing moments of nature, emotion, and imagination in just 17 syllables.

In art, we began exploring the culture of Peru through weaving! The learners made a loom out of a paper plate, and began weaving intricate patterns and colors together to create a beautiful piece of artwork.

‍

We continued our immersive experiences in Peru through cooking on Friday! Mrs. Molley led the heroes in cooking Peruvian green rice and Pollo a la Brasa (Peruvian roasted chicken). The dish was a hit amongst the group!

‍

It was an exciting and engaging week full of learning by doing. We can't wait to see where these creative and entrepreneurial paths will take our heroes next!
