Year 3, Session 2, Week 2
This week for the Architect Quest Eagles have been hard at work finishing their floor plans and elevation sketches! The focus has been on re-framing problems and collaborating with other groups to solve these problems. They were challenged to let go of their bias to action and let their maximum creativity flow! Once the Excellence Committee signs off on the Eagle's final sketches they were able to move on to their model phase. Creating a 3-D model is the final step in the Architecture Quest and what many Eagles have look forward to that most.
This week Eagles discovered how the architecture the past is still relevant and as captivating as today's modern marvels. Session 2 brought on the Eagles first field trip to the Old and New State Capitols. The weather was picture perfect and Eagles clamored with excitement at the days adventures. The first stop was the New State Capital with all it's art-deco flare. From imported marble floors and walls to golden elevator doors; the beauty was in the details! After a tour of Memorial Hall, The House and Senate Chambers, Eagles went up 27 floors to view the city from the observation deck.
Sir Huey P. Long got special recognition as the details of his assassination are still on display. He was described as a radical and charismatic politician; still the only in Louisiana to serve as Governor and Senator. He was clearly a big deal to the people eventually becoming known as "The Kingfish".
The second stop on the Eagles field trip was to the Old State capitol. Boasting an antique spiral staircase, and many of the original bricks and fence, the Eagles were in store for quite the surprise. The tour started with an award winning show detailing the history of the Old State Capital, how it was first built, and the kitchen fire that almost ended it's reign. With portraits of all the Governors of Louisiana filling the walls the Old Capital it is staged as a testament to its former charm and glory. It is still host to many prestigious ceremonies and even weddings. Too bad Huey P. Long did not care for the character remaining in the Old State Capital after it's rebuilding; he demanded building the New State Capital which dwarfs the Old State Capital in it's enormity.
Yay we have sprouts!! The Eagles have been watering the seedlings just right as they have grown quite a bit since being planted. Have you figured out what they planted?
Sometimes we have to take a moment to recognize the small victories. Several of our Eagles ventured out and tried things for the first time this week. Some of our Little Eagles rode a bus for the first time. Great job staying calm, sometimes a bus ride can be bumpy and quite tiring. Other Eagles decided to try food for the first time and were happy to discover new flavors. Thanks again to our Eagles supporters who joined us on our first field trip!
