Completing the Story of Energy

Year 6 Session 6 Weeks 5 & 6

Over the past few weeks, our school community has been buzzing with creativity, exploration, and celebration. The ES heroes have been deeply engaged in their “Story of Energy” quest, where curiosity and hands-on learning have taken center stage. One highlight was a series of experiments on thermal energy. Learners brought science to life by creating simulations of a hot air balloon and a steam engine, giving them a tangible understanding of how heat can be transformed into motion and power. Alongside these experiments, they worked collaboratively to build timelines that traced how humans have gathered and used energy throughout history—from early fire-making to modern innovations.

As the session progressed, excitement built toward our end-of-session exhibition. The heroes took ownership of organizing the event, thoughtfully preparing displays and demonstrations that showcased all they had learned. It was a proud moment for everyone as learners confidently shared their work with parents and guests, reflecting not only their knowledge but also their growth in communication and responsibility.

We also enjoyed some festive fun when Mrs. Molley surprised the learners with shamrock cookies to decorate. This simple act brought lots of joy, creativity, and of course, a bit of sweetness to our day.

In Writer’s Workshop, the ES heroes reached an exciting milestone by completing their comic books inspired by the Hero’s Journey. Each learner crafted a unique story filled with challenges, growth, and triumph. They then shared their work with peers, practicing how to give and receive thoughtful feedback—an important skill that strengthens both writing and community.

In art, we began a vibrant new project inspired by the characters from Inside Out. As learners paint these expressive characters, they are also exploring their own emotions—building awareness and vocabulary around how they feel and why. This blend of creativity and self-reflection has added a meaningful layer to our artistic work.

Finally, we are thrilled to welcome a new hero to our community—Jordan! We are excited to have him join us and look forward to the unique energy and perspective he brings.

It has been a rich and rewarding few weeks, filled with discovery, creativity, and connection. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds!
