Getting in the Flow!

Our 1st Year, Session 6, Week 5

Musical Projects!

This week in MakerSpace the Eagles explored the wonders of music! They built instruments that could play a tune in different pitches. The learners even got interested in the guitar, so they looked up the chords and videos to try to play a song.

Setting Goals

Every Monday all the Eagles get together for their morning meeting to discuss their goals and work habits. Eagles set their goals for the day and anything that makes sense to schedule ahead for the week. Afterwards, they share one or two of their SMART goals with the group and receive feedback!-Is it SMART?SpecificMeasurableAchievableRealisticTimely-Will it be in your challenge zone? How do you know it is?-Is it a stretch goal? How do you know it is?

Can we build it?

Since organization is the focus trait of the session, that will be the focus as critics. The Eagles learned about the sub-skills of organization:

  • Author’s introduction “hooks” the reader in an interesting way.
  • Author’s ideas are presented in a logical sequence.
  • The transitions show where the idea or story moves forward.
  • The organization of the whole piece feels natural, not forced.
  • The conclusion leaves the reader satisfied.

Which sub-skill do you think will be most challenging for you to give feedback on as a critic? Which do you think will be the easiest? Their call to action was to practice requesting thoughtful feedback and giving thoughtful feedback. The Eagles were challenged to build a box that will be used for our chickens soon! This required following instructions, teamwork, and learning to use the tools.

We are nearing the end!

The Eagles have been practicing their fingerprinting, handwriting, and footprint analysis for their final detective in training assignment to get their Detective badge! Exhibition prep started this week and they are starting early because it is very elaborate. The Exhibition is a gathering of the community at the end of each session, to experience demonstrations of work and learning by the Eagles. Each session there will be a different exhibition, so that by the end of the year, parents will have seen many different aspects of the learning that occurs at Active Leadership Academy. For this quest, the Exhibition will be a crime-scene simulation written and set up by the Eagles for their parents.

Martial Arts!

This week in Martial Arts the Eagles warmed up with an obstacle course! We discussed about the importance of having a good attitude!
