Session 7 Week 4 Year 5
Our learners worked hard this week preparing projects for display at the last exhibition of the year. The Little Heroes are working on their interpretation of the Hero’s Journey while the ES heroes are creating stories, models, and sculptures!
Quest
This week's quest was led on different days by Charlie and Harper. First, Charlie led the ES heroes in a model airplane building quest. The learners used cardboard, popsicle sticks, and hot glue to create model airplanes and then tested them out. After testing them, they made modifications to try and improve the distance the planes glided. They will compete for which plane glides the best at exhibition!
Harper had the first day of her art quest on Thursday. She challenged the learners to sculpt a desert of their choice out of air dry clay and then add details with paint to make them look realistic. She let Mr. Molley judge the sculptures anonymously for most realistic and best details, and Harper and Charlie won 2 hero bucks each!
Art
We are learning about Louisiana this week so our art project was inspired by the state bird - pelican! The heroes used a painting by Louisiana artist Becky Fos as a reference for their watercolor paintings, but added their own unique creative twists. Becky Fos actually has an art gallery in New Orleans that you can visit!
Cooking
Mrs. Molley led the heroes in grilling local Veron’s sausage for cooking this week. She brought several photos and explained her family’s history with the Veron’s brand including the grocery store! This was a great snack and the learners came back for seconds!!
