Taking a Da Vinci Bridge to Mardi Gras Break

Year 4, Session 5, Week 5

The end of the session is rapidly approaching, and our learners are working hard on wrapping up everything they need to submit their badges. We are also coming to the end of our Civilization book for the year. The heroes are excited to see what new learning opportunities await them in session 6!

‍

We continued to explore physics during quest time. The group learned about Da Vinci bridges, and arranged popsicle sticks into an arched bridge that could support a cup with coins in it. The ES heroes were able to successfully get the bridge to stay together without using any binding agents such as glue or rope! They also finished up their marble runs and began designing their toys for exhibition.

‍

We had a little Mardi Gras celebration during art this week! First, the learners colored and decorated a Mardi Gras mask. Then they used beads to paint on a canvas and added a copy of their mask with modge podge. The final product came out great and everyone was able to bring their projects home. While we worked on our masterpieces we listened to Mardi Gras music and ate king cake after!

‍

In Writer’s Workshop, the ES finished their revisions of their science fiction stories and began working on the illustrations. They are excited to share what they wrote with their families at exhibition!

‍

Harper, Kain and Charlie traded in the Hero Bucks they earned for a lunch limo to Chick-fil-A! This experience was a fun opportunity for them to practice ordering their own food and managing their own money.

‍

We hope everyone has a safe and joy filled Mardi Gras break and comes back recharged to crush the rest of session 5!
