Session 1 Week 4 Year 5
Our week was cut short due to Labor Day but it was jam packed with amazing things! The heroes are wrapping up their projects to prepare for the end of session exhibition. We can’t wait for their families to see all of their hard work!
ES Studio
The ES learners finished their letters for Writer’s Workshop this week and completed the last of their quest challenges. Most of the heroes worked on mapmaking and map reading, and statistics and probability as part of the Prediction Tools quest. During our midday circle the learners took turns leading yoga!
Art
In Art, we learned about how the butterfly pea flower grows in Thailand and can be made into a tea. The learners drew this flower on a small canvas and then painted it with water colors. Afterwards, they wrote two words that the flower made them feel when they looked at it and added that to their canvas.
Core Skills
Little Heroes working hard on Lexia and DreamBox!
Cooking
This week Mrs. Molley led the heroes in cooking West African Puff Puffs! Very similar to our local beignets, Puff Puffs are considered a street food. They consist of fried dough and our learners sprinkled powdered sugar on top.
Gratitude Journals
On Fridays, the ES heroes answer a prompt in their gratitude journals. They write as many reasons and descriptions as they can think of to explain why they are grateful for the subject matter. This week the prompt was “Which season are you most thankful for and why?”. Majority of the studio said winter was their favorite season due to all of the holiday memories with their families!
ES Hero of the Week
The ES Heroes voted Charlie as hero of the week! Congrats Charlie!
