This week the learners started a new challenge that will last throughout the month of October! The “So Focused It’s Scary” challenge lets the heroes in both studios earn “focus points” during silent core skills for things like not talking, setting challenging goals, and getting up one time or less. If they meet the focus point goal for the day they earn a daily reward, but they are also acquiring points for an end of the month reward. Every hero that earns 66 or more focus points by the end of October will get to participate in a pizza and outdoor game party during core skills on Friday, November 1st!
This week both studios began diving into business! The Little Heroes began working with money values and counting currency. The Elementary School heroes started preparing their businesses for the Children’s Business Fair November 2nd.
The heroes began tackling exhibition prep before hurricane Francine hit. The storm postponed exhibition but our learners didn’t let that rattle them. They remained laser focused and worked hard to organize a great display of their work from session one!
Our week was cut short due to Labor Day but it was jam packed with amazing things! The heroes are wrapping up their projects to prepare for the end of session exhibition. We can’t wait for their families to see all of their hard work!
We had a fabulous first week of school and our heroes are already establishing routines. The learners experienced both fun and hard work as they got to know each other and their studio. We are confident that they have laid the foundation for what will be an AMAZING school year!
A week of leveling up for both studios! Our heroes were laser focused on improving the culture within their tribe and made positive changes within their groups.
This week was all about challenges that promoted growth and opportunities! Our heroes were tasked for one day to use nothing but sign language, writing, or mouthing to communicate. They learned about how difficult it is for members of the community who can’t communicate verbally to get their thoughts across and had to get creative. Everyone who successfully completed this challenge received Chic-fil-A on Friday! ‍
One of the top questions we are asked by parents when touring our private school in Gonzales, LA is "what curriculum do you use?" While we utilize Montessori elements and the latest in game-based adaptive software, the "curriculum" at Hero’s Journey: An Acton Academy can seem confusing; especially when learners are allowed to work at their own pace on core skills programs and our real world projects look nothing like traditional subjects that fit nicely into a textbook.
